Ohhhh how I love my HBCU! As a child, I've always wanted to attend a Historical Black College or University. In Georgia, there are only 3 public HBCU's, including Savannah State, Fort Valley State and my beautiful ALBANY STATE UNIVERSITY. My freshmen and sophomore years were spent at a Jr. college, Darton State. Once those years were completed, I transferred to ASU. The first year at an HBCU was such an amazing experience. From campus to the classroom, my school was lit!

It was such a pleasure walking around and seeing individuals that looked just like me, everyday! Growing up, I've always been in a community where I was the minority. As a child, I was the only "black kid" on the team. Since then, I've made a commitment that I would go to an HBCU. My dream HBCU is Howard University (I may go there to get my MBA). My junior year at ASU, I wasn't quit acquainted with those in my class because I was a transfer student. I had to get it where I fit in. Like any other student, I met people in my class, in my dorm and in the caf. I became familiar with the school's history, I went to events and I played softball for one year.

As the semesters rolled along, I experienced new things, found new friends and found myself. In my senior year, I've realized that no matter what school you're in, how popular you are, who you know, your purpose and dreams will not be fulfilled if you don't chase it! "Nothing comes to a sleeper but a dream". Maturing in my actions and words, I've realized my purpose on this earth and I'm becoming the woman that I've always wanted to be. Full of character and determination, I will walk across the stage at graduation and thank God for all the good and perfect gifts that's been given to me when I did not deserve them. My undergrad semester may be coming to an end, but my purpose is just beginning!
