Happy 4th of July

It's the 4th of July and I know a lot of people have traveled far and fro to visit loved ones, friends and spouses. I want to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday. To be completely honest, I completely hated the concept of the 4th of July for simple fact that I'm deep in my African roots and I always felt like as minorities, we are never free. But since I've given my life to Christ, I look at this freedom day in a different perspective.

"Whom the Son set free is free indeed" -John 8:36. As minorities, it's time to stop giving the oppressors too much credit. Never will I allow someone to treat like I'm not equal because of my skin color. I am a child of God and if God says "Yes!" then it is a "Yes!". At the end of the day, people treat you the way you allow them to. God says I am powerful and worthy and I will hold myself up to that standard from the way I dress, speak, walk, etc.

From this view point, this holiday means so much more to me! This holiday reminds me how FREE I am in the name of Jesus. This holidays reminds me that no matter how tough life may become, I am free and I am worthy in the eyes of God. You are free too! Speak like your free. Laugh like your free. Dress like your free. BE FREE. BE YOU. xoxo
